Hello,

Thanks for this good idea! But the app needs some more features. How about adding own pictures for the plants or alphabetical sorting? Or would it be possible to add pictures oder information automatically - for example from Wikipedia oder Google? Such things would make the app better! But great for 1.0!

I have plans to add taking photos of the plants — I don’t yet have an iPhone myself to test on, once I do this feature is the first on the list to be added. I like the idea of automatic look up of data — that would make things very nice.

Thanks for the good comments!

This is pretty cool. I wonder if it would be worth adding the capability to put in lat/long coordinates via gps. You could then potentially produce a virtual “picture” of the garden.

another idea that might be worthwhile is adding a field for sunlight (full, partial, etc.). It’s probably not completely necessary, since you have the notes field, but nearly every plant I’ve purchased has that info on it.

I have been trying to buy this for the last couple of days but am being told that the prog is being modified??. Btw, the photo option is a definite must have addition!

This has potential but needs a few things added. It needs to have groups and to be sorted alphabetically within groups. It needs to have a search function and also to be able to add photos of individual plants.
It also needs a larger font.
There are also some bugs. When adding records it has crashed my iPod twice…once resulting in freezing my iPod and taking a few minutes before it started again.
Also if you add a price it reverts to a full number…e.g….if I add £5,99 or 5.99 when the field is saved it goes to 6.
As I said it has potential but still needs a lot of work to make it worthwhile using to catalogue a whole garden.

Hi looks like a good app. Am wondering if I can add vegetables to the program too? thanks for any help kevin

You could definitely add vegetables — it’s generic enough so it should work with any plant. I currently only have a few icons to choose form for the plants, but will be adding more in an upcoming update. I’ll make sure vegetables is one of them.

Eric,
Does this app contain a database of plants (with botanical names etc.) to choose from or is it simply an empty database app into which the user must manually add all the information from a separate reference?
Regards,
Andrew

It doesn’t include a database of plant information, but this is planned for a future release.

Hi Eric,
This app is very interesting and promising. Adding photos from Photo library would be great.
Do you plan to add translation for other languages ? If I can be of any help do not hesitate. I can translate to french language.
Olivier.

Hello.
I am interested in this application very much.
Can this application use even Japanese?

Hello.
I purchase my garden and take advantage of today in Japanese.
It is a very wonderful application, but there is a request.
I mention a garden diary and think it to be more wonderful when I get possible to carry a photograph.
I expect it for future version up.

At last something for gardeners and Apple users - I immediately bought it!

My suggestions:
- The photo-taking feature is a must for your coming updates - it also reduces or even eliminates the need for plant icons, and it would be nice you could also add photos from the photo library
- GPS coordinates would be cool
- A syncing Mac-counterpart for this iPhone app would be really good, so you could easily add a lot of entries - btw, as far as I know there is no decent gardening software for the Mac

Thanks for the good job!

I put a review on the Apple Store regarding how I intend to use this nice little app. I’ve crashed it a few times, however, and I can’t place the cursor accurately in a typed line. The iPhone editor lets me place the cursor, but when I try to type, the cursor jumps to the beginning or end of the word.
I notice that everyone wants a plant database, but that’s not something I’m interested in- there’s no way you could cover all the new plant introductions which is what I’m tracking.

@FlowerFan - I’ll look into the typing bugs you mentioned.

Thanks,
Eric

The upgrades and bug fixes are a big improvement.
It still needs to have the ability to add a photo, like a lot of other database software on the App Store, to make it just about perfect.
Until that time I will still continue to use another piece of software, not gardening, to catalogue my garden.
I’m not sure that a plant database will be that easy to do as each continent has different plants and requirements but if you go ahead with it and it has the ability to be added to or adapted by users then it could be very useful.
Lastly I think there is still a need to be able to either wi-fi or e-mail a list to the desktop.
That is something for the future but this is definitely moving on the right direction.
As I said earlier to ability to add your own photos, either taken on an iPhone or from the iPhoto library for iPod Touch users would make this a killer app.

I wasn’t sure whether to buy this, but the amount of interaction from the developer has convinced me. The fact that you are responding to ideas about new features is brilliant.

Vegetables would be particularly useful, since more and more people are getting into gardening what with food prices and concerns about pesticides, and vegetables tend to be more similar from country to country. Most home gardeners grow carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, beans etc.

Can not wait for an update. It crashes time after time on my iPod touch. A serious database would make it worth the money. You van type an list of plantnames in any tekst programm. Please surprise us with an update!

Version 1.1.2 is waiting for Apple’s approval (it’s been there for many days now…). The update fixes the crashing issues.

The next feature addition will be the ability to look plants up from a database.

–Eric

UPDATED: I has mistakenly typed 1.2 as the version # above. It should have been 1.1.2, which is now in the iTunes AppStore.

Eric, check out plants.USDA.gov for good ideas about fields and a database source. Hope you have an update on the way!

Do you plan to make a desktop version for Macs to work with this App? I would not want to lose my data if I have to restore my iPhone.

2008-09-28 @ 8:41 am

I currently don’t have plans for a desktop app, but I wouldn’t rule it out either. One feature that will certainly be added to the iPhone app is backup though. Vote in the poll on the right-hand side of the page (near the top) for the feature you would like to see next.

I would love to see the ability to drag simple generic icons around. Images like Tulips, flowers, trees, bushes… stepping stones, fences and walls. Tap on the item to reveal the specifics of the plant.

This way I can know which Apple tree I planted where and the location and pattern of red, white and yellow tulips (umm… so that when I accidentally, carelessly shove the spade into the ground and pull up a tulip bulb sliced and clinging to the shovel I can find out what to plant to replace it, IF something like that were to happen, NOT that it has yet. That would be dumb of someone to do something like that. I can’t actually imagine it would happen…

Yeah. You need to fix that. I can’t remember what color that tulip was… I mean… this would be a cool feature that I could imagine SOMEBODY might want

very good app. I use it in my garden all the time. A few suggestions: a pull down menu for plant colors(low priority), many more icons( meduim prioity ) and a database of plant names with both common and scientific names
(high priority)

What’s the latest about the back-ups, database of plants and ability to add photos. It seems nothing has happened much recently.
At the moment I’m not using My Garden until at least the back up and ability to add photos have been added to My Garden. Instead I’m using my own folder system in another product that I can back up to a desktop version of the software concerned.
