the perl-based source has been released! This code requires the following modules to run:

• LWP (HTTP::Request::Common, LWP::UserAgent)
• Config::IniFiles

For those of you that odwnload and use this client… PLEASE do not make major modifications without sending them on to me.
all programming help for this project is greatly appreciated, but I would like for it to be shared back out to everyone.

There is NO documentation. Sorry, I don’t have enough time to code, document, and answer the 600 or so emails I’ve received!
BUT If you really would like to help, feel free to emailo me any questions you have.

In other News:

There will be NO MacOS binary. use the perl version.

There probably won’t be a binary for Linux, BeOS, NewOS, SunOS, PalmOS, VMS, HPUX, OS X, Next Mach, IRIX, or anything else you all can think of. Use the perl version!!

Changes

• If a result comes back empty, it will retry that key up to 10 times before passing it back to the server,
  thereby reducing DRASTICALLY the number of single-key blocks that will be reissued.

Changes:

• Supports proxies! (check out the INI file.), if you need help, Email me
• Less data transferred when reporting checked keys!! non-error and non-positive keys are transferred in large blocks, rather than
  one at a time.
• More efficient database storage (Drive space was being eaten away very quickly.
• upgrade instructions: Before running this client, stop (hit CTRL-C) and restart your client, after it sends it’s blocks, stop it again.
  this will send all the block you processed to the server.

  Then unzip the new client on top of your old one, OVERWRITING everything. You’ll also need to delete the results.txt file that is in that directory.

  After all of this is done, make sure to change the username= line in the ini file.

for those of you that tried to run the client last night, but received the message “out of blocks?”
I’m sorry… I didn’t load the database up with enough blocks. That has been solved now though.
the database now has over 8000 blocks, from F000 – FFFF.

We’re off an running. everyone should make sure that they are using version 1.1,
as 1.0 was lacking some necessary libraries.

FAQ

Where can I get a username?

Usernames can be setup here.

Can I run more than one client on my machine?

YES! Make sure you pt each one in it’s own directory.

I suggest the following maximum clients:

56k modem: 1 client

128k ISDN/Cable: 4 clients

T1/DSL: 40 clients

This will ensure that the internet connection is still useable for other things, and it doesn’t become saturated.

Do I need a username for each client?

No. You can use the same username for all of your clients

Installation Instructions

1. Unzip contents to any directory
2. Edit the rur14.ini file so that the username= line has your username, which Eric gave you.
3. On the command line, run the program.

I get a weird error about “Invalid string or buffer length (SQL-S1090)”

Your network is unfortunately separated from the internet by a firewall. The client is not compatible with
some firewall setups out there. We’re working on a firewall-happy version.

I get an error saying “Can’t load ‘C:\WINDOWS\TEMP/ODBC.dll’”

You do not have some necessary drivers. Luckily, I have them, and you can Download them.
just click on that download link, and save the file. The run the file, and follow the directions!!
