I’ve been following this advice since starting out on my own. The one time I did near the beginning, I realized what a bad thing it is. I spent a few hours creating a nice design, only to have my bid declined, and a design similar to mine appear on their website. No more free work from me. I do find that the clients that understand why I don’t are usually great clients and have more experience working with designers, and they understand your time is valuble.

I’ll reprhase a bit. People who request a Design with your bid do not value your time, and may not understand how long it takes. Bad clients. Run away fast.

Well, it’s working again.previously it was a hodge podge of things making it work, now it’s one nice chunk of code that saves the comments in XML files, and then the XSL that generates the website imports that to the final page. Quite nice. In any case, it’s all working. talk amongst yourselves.

This means that the menu I am creating (a horizontal menu using a UL>LI for the items, and anchors doesn’t appear properly in Mozilla .7 (and other Gecko based things) although it appears just fine in IE 6 (where most of my headaches occur). Haven’t tried it anything else … yet.

I’m sure everyone wishes that. In any case, I wanted to use the window.event.toElement property, but Netscape doesn’t supoort it, only IE. It’s not a standard at all, Microsoft just came up with it, but it’s definitely handy. In any case, you can find a quick little article at javascriptkit.com that creates a cross-browser version of the event object. Quite handy, and I’m surprised I haven’t needed it before.
